USA: Man Condemned to 2 Years in Prison for Supergluing 17 People to Toilets

court
Richmond| William Thomas, a 19-year old boy from the Virginian capital, was found guilty recently of 17 charges of assault, 36 charges of disorderly conduct, 36 charges of disturbing the peace and 36 charges of vandalism, for coating the all toilet seats of six different shopping mall bathroom with industrial strength super glue, making 17 victims. He was condemned to a sentence of two years in prison and a fine of 75000$, a judgement which his lawyer denounces as exaggerated and racist.

“My client is not a violent or dangerous man” explains Mr. Philip Morrisson, who represents Mr. Thomas. “He simply made a mistake that can be explained by his young age and immaturity, and he should not be treated like a dangerous crminal. I will consult him about future actions, but we will certainly appeal the judge’s decision. There is possibly a racial bias behind such a severe sentence, and we cannot stand by and remain silent if Mr. Thomas was not given the opportunity of a fair trial.”

On January 27th, the young man went to the Stony Point Fashion Park, carrying 5 large tubes of cyanoacrylate adhesive, a category of thermoplastic adhesives that are known for rapid fixturing and very high shear strength performance on most plastic, metal, and rubber substrates. He then walked around the mall going from one bathroom to another, covering all toilet seats with small quantities of super glue. 17 people fell victim to his malicious prank before the glue dried out and became inoffensive. All victims suffered only light injuries, but nine of them demanded psychological help to overcome the trauma of the experience.

Mr. Thomas worked as a security agent for the Fashion Park for a little more than a year before he was fired in December 2013 for showing up drunk at work. He would have then planned this evil trick as an act of revenge on his former employers, clearly insensitive to the harm he could cause to innocent victims in doing so.
