Steven Bowditch books Masters berth

Eight years after he attempted to take his own life, Steven Bowditch is heading to the Masters.
The Australian has battled with depression throughout his career, his nadir coming in 2006 when he attempted to drown himself.
But the 30-year-old has fought back from the brink and, after Sunday's win at the Valero Texas Open, he will take to the tee at Augusta National for the first time when the year's opening major begins on April 10.
Since his suicide bid in 2006 Bowditch has rebuilt his life and career and is now a spokesman for
"Steven has long-struggled with a depressive condition and several years ago he publicly explained his plight while raising money for beyondblue," the non-profit organization's chairman Jeff Kennett said in a statement.
"Steven today is yet another example to anyone who experiences depressive or anxiety conditions, that by seeking professional help and staying focused you can not only overcome your own struggles, but can rightly be called a champion.
"He has triumphed on the toughest golf circuit in the world and it shows that with the appropriate support, people with depression or anxiety are capable of achieving the extraordinary.
"It sends a message to all Australians, particularly those in sport, that when you are struggling it sometimes can help to be open and talk about it.
"While Steven will today have a wonderful trophy, this achievement itself is a shining prize that will inspire others with depression to reach similar heights."

In an interview with Golf Digest in 2009, Bowditch revealed that, after going 12 days without sleep, he drank an entire bottle of Scotch and fell asleep for two days.
When he woke up, Bowditch put on his heaviest clothes and jumped in a swimming pool in a bid to commit suicide.
His girlfriend dragged him out and resuscitated him.
In clinching the biggest win of his 13-year professional career, Bowditch had to battle wind, "moving rocks" and the odd cactus..

COURT BARS LAGOS STATE FROM COLLECTING TOLL AT LEKKI-IKOYILINK BRIDGE

A Federal High Court in Lagos has today ruled that the Lagos State government cannot collect toll on the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge.
A lawyer and rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa had dragged the state to court seeking an injunction to restrain the Lagos State Government, the respondent, from collecting tolls from motorists on the bridge.
In the application, the plaintiff stated that the respondent had gone ahead to collect tolls on the bridge in spite of a pending suit he filed seeking to stop the collection.
He The plaintiff said that the government commissioned the bridge on May 29 and started collecting tolls on June 1.
In a further affidavit he tendered before the court, Adegboruwa attached a toll ticket he received on the bridge.
“The Governor of Lagos State openly declared the bridge a toll bridge, whereby saloon cars will pay N250 per trip and Sports Utility Vehicles N350.00 per trip,” he said.
Adegboruwa described the government’s act as abuse of court processes. In the substantive suit, the plaintiff had submitted that the state government had no right to demand tolls on the bridge constructed on a Federal Navigable Waterway

NJC suspends new Rivers State Chief Judge

The National Judicial Council, NJC, has suspended the new Rivers State Chief Judge, Justice Peter Agumagu.
The decision was taken today in Abuja after the NJC held an emergency meeting on the developments in the Rivers State Judiciary.
The NJC accused Justice Agumagu of disregarding the council by accepting the appointment of Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
The Council also said Justice Agumagu pretended to be unaware of the provisions in the 1999 Constitution as Amended with regard to the appointment of a Chief Judge.
It will be recalled that a Federal High court in Port Harcourt had nullified the recommendation of the National Judicial Council’s appointee, Justice Daisy Okocha as the Chief Judge of Rivers State.
The presiding Judge, Justice Lambo Akanbi had in his judgement stated that governor, Rotimi Amaechi was not bound and cannot be compelled to swear-in the individual recommended by the NJC.

Judgment on Lawmakers' Defection Suit Aborted

The  judgment in the suit filed by 79 lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could not be delivered yesterday as the plaintiffs filed another application before the Federal High Court in Abuja
The plaintiffs, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and 50 defecting members of the PDP in the House of Representatives and 22 senators had through an originating summons filed by their counsel, Mahmud Magaji (SAN) prayed the  court for an order restraining Alhaji Bamanga Tukur (1st defendant), the Senate President (2nd defendant), Speaker of the House of Representatives (3rd defendant) and the PDP (4th defendant) from declaring their seats vacant in the event of their defection to the APC.
All parties in the suit had adopted their written addresses after which the presiding judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed fixed yesterday for judgment.
However, the judgment could not go on as the plaintiffs brought another application seeking a referral of the suit to the Court of Appeal to determine whether they (plaintiffs) could enjoy the proviso to Section 68(1)(g) of the Constitution, which allows defection on the basis of a division within their parties.
Magaji said the application was necessary because there were five different suits on the same matter pending before various high courts.
He further prayed the court to adjourn indefinitely to enable the Court of Appeal to hear the matter.
Opposing the application, counsel to Tukur and PDP, Chief Joseph Kkyari-Gadzama (SAN) stated that the application was a plot to arrest the judgment of the court.
He added that the plaintiffs did not have the power to bring a referral application since they were the ones who approached the court first.
He further submitted that it was only the court that could on its own  refer the matter to the Court of Appeal.

SENATE IN A UNIANIMOUS DECISION CONFIRMS EMEFIELE AS CENTRAL BANK GOVERNOR

 050512N.Godwin-Emefiele(1).jpg - 050512N.Godwin-Emefiele(1).jpg
The Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Wednesday vowed to ensure economic stability to create jobs and boost growth, as the Senate unanimously approved his appointment to replace Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Emefiele will take over in June from Sanusi, who was suspended last month by President Goodluck Jonathan on charges of “financial recklessness and misconduct”.
The Senate also unanimously confirmed Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa as the President of the Court of Appeal. Both of them were cleared after hours of grilling by the upper legislative chamber.
First to be confirmed was Bulkachuwa who was not subjected to intense scrutiny as was the case with Emefiele.

But upon entering the chamber, Senate President David Mark had told Emefiele not to expect to leave the chamber in a hurry, adding he would be subjected to special rounds of questioning because he would be leading a very important institution in the country.
Emefiele said in his first public comments since his nomination that he would make macroeconomic stability his watchword and the central bank would work to drive down inflation and interest rates.
According to AFP, he also vowed to maintain a strong exchange rate to build up healthy foreign reserves as well as formulate policies to address fears about unemployment, particularly among young people.

“We will ensure that during this period, if approved by the Senate, that whatever monetary policy decision we take will be those that will lead to improvement in the level of employment,” he said, warning the country was facing an ‘employment emergency’.”
Emefiele added: “Growing the economy of Nigeria is a very important assignment other than just a core mandate of ensuring that we have a stable environment.”
Emefiele also promised to use the development banking model to drive economic growth in the real sector of the economy to the benefit of all Nigerians.

PROF DORA AKUNYILI RESPONSE ON HER HEALTH ISSUES

I AM WELL, FIT AND READY FOR THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE

My Dear Friends,

My attention has been drawn to a story making the rounds online claiming that I am seriously sick, currently out of the country and in need of urgent prayers.

This story is baseless, unfounded and the handiwork of mischief makers. It should be ignored and discarded in its entirety. As every informed Nigerian knows, I am a Delegate to the National Conference currently holding in Abuja. I was duly accredited as a Delegate and I am currently in attendance at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja, venue of the conference.

While it is true that I recently came out of a major sickness, for which I thank Almighty God for delivering me, I have since been declared fit by my doctors and returned to my normal activities. I shed much weight in the course of the sickness – which is normal – but I am well now and only need time to re-grow some flesh. There is nothing to worry about either my health or my present stature.

I know that God has kept me alive for a purpose, this National Conference being part of that purpose. For the avoidance of doubt, I am well now, fit, strong enough and ready for this all-important National Conference and I look forward to collaborating with other delegates to chart the way for a better Nigeria.

I thank all my friends for their love and prayers. May Almighty God bless and reward you.

Dora.

MISTAKEN IDENTITY

Arsenal won their appeal on Monday over Kieran Gibbs being wrongfully dismissed in the 6-0 hammering at Chelsea, with real culprit Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also let off a ban by the Football Association.
Oxlade-Chamberlain used his hand to divert a shot in Saturday's Premier League match but referee Andre Marriner sent off left back Gibbs in a case of mistaken identity despite Oxlade-Chamberlain owning up to the foul.
The FA said in a statement that not only would Gibbs' offence be transferred to Oxlade-Chamberlain but that the case was one of wrongful dismissal.
Arsenal had argued the ball would have gone wide if the midfielder had not handled and therefore did not constitute denying a goal.
"This claim was upheld meaning Oxlade-Chamberlain will not serve any suspension with the standard punishment withdrawn with immediate effect," the FA said.
Despite his double error, the Premier League said on Monday that Marriner would not be demoted and would take charge of Southampton v Newcastle United on Saturday.

528 Muslim Brotherhood supporters sentenced to death in Egypt

Muslim Brotherhood and ousted President Mohamed Morsy supporters in Cairo on November 29, 2013.
An Egyptian court sentenced at least 528 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood to death Monday on charges related to violent riots in the southern Egyptian city of Minya last August, including the murder of a police officer, the country's official news agency said.
The riots took place after a deadly crackdown by security forces on two large sit-ins in Cairo, where demonstrators were supporting ousted President Mohammed Morsy.
While the official MENA news agency reported 528 death sentences, other Egyptian media said 529 people were sentenced to death.

The semiofficial Ahram Online news site said it was the largest set of death sentences handed to defendants in the modern history of Egypt.
Not all of the defendants are in custody, according to EgyNews. The defendants can appeal their sentences.
The court also acquitted at least 16 other defendants.

Investigators conclude that missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean, Malaysian PM says.

Watch this video

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 went down over the southern Indian Ocean, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said Monday, citing a new analysis of satellite data by a British satellite company and accident investigators.
The announcement appeared to rule out the possibility that anyone could have survived whatever happened to the aircraft, which vanished more than two weeks ago with 239 people aboard.
As Razak spoke, airline representatives met with family members in Beijing. "They have told us all lives are lost," one relative of a missing passenger told CNN.
The developments happened the same day as Australian officials announced they had spotted two objects in the southern Indian Ocean that could be related to the flight, which has been missing since March 8 with 239 people aboard.
One object is "a grey or green circular object," and the other is "an orange rectangular object," the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said.
The objects are the latest in a series of sightings, including "suspicious objects" reported earlier Monday by a Chinese military plane that was involved in search efforts in the same region, authorities said.
So far, nothing has been definitively linked to Flight 370.
Earlier, Hishammuddin Hussein, Malaysia's acting transportation minister, said only that "at the moment, there are new leads but nothing conclusive."
A reporter on board the Chinese plane for China's official Xinhua news agency said the search team saw "two relatively big floating objects with many white smaller ones scattered within a radius of several kilometers," the agency reported Monday.
The Chinese plane was flying at 33,000 feet on its way back to Australia's west coast when it made the sighting, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said.
But a U.S. Navy P-8 Poseidon aircraft, one of the military's most sophisticated reconnaissance planes, that was tasked to investigate the objects was unable to find them, the authority said.
With the search in its third week, authorities have so far been unable to establish where exactly the missing plane is or why it flew off course from its planned journey from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
China has a particularly large stake in the search: Its citizens made up about two-thirds of the 227 passengers on the missing Boeing 777. Beijing has repeatedly called on Malaysian authorities, who are in charge of the overall search, to step up efforts to find the plane.
Malaysian and Australian authorities appeared to be more interested Monday in the two objects spotted by a Royal Australian Air Force P-3 Orion aircraft.
The Australian's navy's HMAS Success "is on scene and is attempting to locate the objects," the Australian maritime authority said.
Hishammuddin said Australian authorities had said the objects could be retrieved "within the next few hours, or by tomorrow morning at the latest."
Recent information from satellites identifying objects in the water that could be related to the plane has focused search efforts on an area roughly 1,500 miles southwest of the Australian city of Perth.
A total of 10 aircraft -- from Australia, China the United States and Japan -- were tasked with combing the search area Monday.
The aerial searches have been trained on the isolated part of ocean since last week, when Australia first announced that satellite imagery had detected possible objects that could be connected to the search.
Since then, China and France have said they also have satellite information pointing to floating debris in a similar area. The Chinese information came from images, and the French data came from satellite radar.
But Australian officials have repeatedly warned that the objects detected in satellite images may not turn out to be from the missing plane -- they could be containers that have fallen off cargo ships, for example.
On Saturday, searchers found a wooden pallet as well as strapping belts, Australian authorities said. The use of wooden pallets is common in the airline industry, but also in the shipping industry.
Hishammuddin said Monday that Flight 370 was carrying wooden pallets, but that there was so far no evidence they are related to the ones sighted in the search area.
The investigation into the passenger jet's disappearance has already produced a wealth of false leads and speculative theories. Previously, when the hunt was focused on the South China Sea near where the plane dropped off civilian radar, a number of sightings of debris proved to be unrelated to the search.

The sighting of the objects of interest by the Chinese plane came after a weekend during which other nuggets of information emerged about the movements of the errant jetliner on the night it vanished.
Military radar tracking shows that after making a sharp turn over the South China Sea, the plane changed altitude as it headed toward the Strait of Malacca, an official close to the investigation into the missing flight told CNN.
The plane flew as low as 12,000 feet at some point before it disappeared from radar, according to the official. It had reportedly been flying at a cruising altitude of 35,000 feet when contact was lost with air traffic control.
The sharp turn seemed to be intentional, the official said, because executing it would have taken the Boeing 777 two minutes -- a time period during which the pilot or co-pilot could have sent an emergency signal if there had been a fire or other emergency on board.
Authorities say the plane didn't send any emergency signals, though some analysts say it's still unclear whether the pilots tried but weren't able to communicate because of a catastrophic failure of the aircraft's systems.
The official, who is not authorized to speak to the media, told CNN that the area the plane flew in after the turn is a heavily trafficked air corridor and that flying at 12,000 feet would have kept the jet well out of the way of that traffic.
Malaysia disputes reprogramming
Also over the weekend, Malaysian authorities said the last transmission from the missing aircraft's reporting system showed it heading to Beijing -- a revelation that appears to undercut the theory that someone reprogrammed the plane's flight path before the co-pilot signed off with air traffic controllers for the last time.
That reduces, but doesn't rule out, suspicions about foul play in the cockpit.
Last week, CNN and other news organizations, citing unnamed sources, reported that authorities believed someone had reprogrammed the aircraft's flight computer before the sign-off.
CNN cited sources who believed the plane's flight computer must have been reprogrammed because it flew directly over navigational way points. A plane controlled by a human probably would not have been so precise, the sources said.
Malaysian authorities never confirmed that account, saying last week that the plane's "documented flight path" had not been altered.
On Sunday, they clarified that statement further, saying the plane's automated data reporting system included no route changes in its last burst, sent at 1:07 a.m. -- 12 minutes before the last voice communication with flight controllers.
Analysts are divided about what the latest information could mean. Some argue it's a sign that mechanical failure sent the plane suddenly off course. Others say there are still too many unknowns to eliminate any possibilities.
CNN aviation analyst Miles O'Brien called the fresh details about the flight a "game changer."
"Now we have no evidence the crew did anything wrong," he said. "And in fact, now, we should be operating with the primary assumption being that something bad happened to that plane shortly after they said good night."
If a crisis on board caused the plane to lose pressure, he said, pilots could have chosen to deliberately fly lower to save passengers.
"You want to get down to 10,000 feet, because that is when you don't have to worry about pressurization. You have enough air in the atmosphere naturally to keep everybody alive," he said. "So part of the procedure for a rapid decompression ... it's called a high dive, and you go as quickly as you can down that to that altitude."
Authorities have said pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah was highly experienced. On Monday, Malaysian authorities said Flight 370 was co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid's sixth flight in a Boeing 777, and the first time when he was not traveling with an instructor pilot shadowing him.
"We do not see any problem with him," said Malaysia Airlines CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.

Rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are eternal rivals always fighting to be the best
One of the most intensive rivalries in sports is the one between F.C Barcelona and Real Madrid.
You could say that it is the most intsensive rivalry between two football clubs in any competition. Often watched by hundreds of millions of people around the world. Therefore it is one of the most watched football matches of all times.
Rivalries are common in football. Often because of geographical locations, matches between two teams from the same city, succes or clubimage. But besides these factors others that seperate the rivalry between these two clubs from the rest is the historical, political, philosophical and cultural aspects that are involved in "El Clasico".
Barcelona and Madrid are the two biggest cities in Spain, while Madrid represents nationalism and the Castillian Empire Barcelona respresents Catalan Nationalism. The rivalry became really fierce in the 30's when Real Madrid became the symbol of conservatism during Franco's dictatorship. F.C. Barcelona on the other hand became the representation of Catalan progressivism.

In 1936 when the Spanish Civil War started a lot of Barcelona players enlisted in the ranks to fight against the military. Club president Josep Sunyol was murdered by soldiers on the 6th of August, this resulted in becoming a martyr for Barcelonisme.
In 1938 Barcelona came under bombardment resulting in more then 3000 people losing their lives. A few months later Catalunya was occupied and after the civil war ended a lot of restrictions followed. The Catalan flag was banned and the club was forced to change its name to Club de Futbal Barcelona.

APC: MOMENT OF SILENCE

The allegations by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) that the suspended CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi gave opposition APC N1billion to open offices across the country, came as a surprise, but it has now put things in proper perspective. What has however, come as a bigger surprise is that the usually vociferous party has kept a deafening silence on the grave allegation leveled against it, pretending not to have seen or read about it in the papers. Its usually active and outspoken spokesman has not deemed it necessary to oblige Nigerians a reaction from his party to such a grave allegation.  It brings to good reasoning then that the allegation may have some truth to it. Otherwise, how can the opposition, usually quick to issue press statements on any issue,  not react to such a grave accusation that damages its reputation and exposes it to ridicule and public odium?
Going by PDP’s allegations, APC is a principal beneficiary of a reckless public official who turned public funds in its custody, to his personal property to be used as he pleases without being accountable to anyone because CBN Act gave him autonomy or better still a ‘sovereignty’ to operate in any island and therefore to do as he wishes.
Instructively, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi the banker turned ‘‘activist’’ and  ‘’crusader’’ for remittances of oil revenue has not deemed it fit to respond to the damaging allegations against him by the PDP.
The spirited defence the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), gave the now suspended governor of the Central Bank, CBN, left many people wondering if the beleaguered CBN governor’s office had not become an extension of the APC party secretariat. The party had accused the President of witch-hunting the holy Mallam who is openly eyeing the Emirship seat. APC had claimed that Sanusi was being punished because of his allegations that $20billion was not remitted to the Federation Account. Yet Sanusi himself had flipped-flopped  over the actual amount that was missing. He had earlier claimed $49.8billion and then reverted to $12billon, settled for $10.8billion  before arriving at the ‘final’ $20billion.
The APC did not mind those inconsistencies. All that mattered was seeing Sanusi’s claim as its fight to rescue Nigeria. However, latest developments have shown that perhaps APC’s concern was less altruistic after all. It was a position taken by a party on the brink of  losing a trusted friend and a source of free funds they have possibly been using to mobilise their ‘‘phantom 28 million members.’’
For those who don’t know,  the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), had alleged that from the N680billion allegedly frittered away by Sanusi when he was in charge at the CBN, the opposition party benefitted not less than N53billion. The PDP said that notable stalwarts of the party got contracts from Sanusi when he was in the CBN.
Olisa Metuh, the spokesman of the PDP, had said that investigations revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its stalwarts were beneficiaries of siphoned CBN money through surreptitious diversion by the suspended CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
Metuh asserted that a questionable N48 billion contract was awarded to one of the leaders of the APC just as another N5 billion was equally paid to another stalwart of the opposition party as consultancy fee.
If one may ask; Where in the world is N5 billion paid for such nebulous service as consultancy fee to an individual? Where is that done except in Nigeria? And the beneficiary is one of those pretenders strutting around on a mission to rescue Nigeria. How tragic for Nigeria that those who milk the country to its bones are the ones parading themselves as people  on a rescue mission to save the country.
Metuh further alleged that: “in addition to the N1 billion diverted by the bank to the party, the bank donated N100 million each to some chieftains of APC to fund their activities last year. The bank also diverted over N1billion to the APC to open offices across the nation.”
In total, these come to N53billion. And then suddenly, the CBN governor became an “activist” and a “politician” probably fighting and funding the APC battle from within. And the party too cheered on like a pampered baby being cuddled by a doting mother. APC was on a roll and it was enjoying the darts and insults being dished out by Sanusi.  Perhaps, who knows, the party may have goaded Sanusi on to become confrontational in the belief that the President can only sack him with two third of senate members. And audaciously he dared the President to go to the Senate, knowing full well that APC senators will block any such move.
Until the cookies came tumbling down, many thought that all the energy and vigour behind the party’s frequent statements were borne out of genuine desire to protect our national institutions.
Alas, it has come to light that the Party was one of the big beneficiaries of fraudulent diversion of taxpayers money to fund its activities. It has come to light that the same party that prides itself as progressive also benefitted from the looting of Nigeria by the holy Mallam who carried on as if he was clean. It has now come to light that all those strong-worded press releases  by APC in defence of Sansui were based on the pecuniary gains it got from the holy Mallam. Indeed, it has come to light that the abuses and recklessness of  Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Governor of the CBN can only be rivaled by the direct looting of the bank by Abacha.  If one may ask; since when  has it become the brief of the CBN to fund political parties? Is this what the cry for autonomy means? And why was it APC that Sanusi chose to give money and not any of the other political parties in the country? If Sanusi and APC can’t explain this, perhaps, their defenders will oblige Nigerian some reactions.
In saner climes, the outrage this kind of revelation would have generated would have ended the careers of so many people. But this is Nigeria where if you catch a thief, he ask you, ‘‘Am I the only one’’? or he will ask, ‘‘what about you’’? The next thing, he will run to court to get ex parte restraining security agencies from arrest him or better still order of perpetual injunction from arresting. And there are ever so willing judges who despite knowing how illegal such orders are, grant them without hesitation. Pronto! The thief is free to wreak more havoc on the system.
However, how one may choose to look at it, Metuh’s allegations have raised new questions. But the greater question is why APC, characteristic of its style, has not deemed it fit to respond to the allegations made by the ruling party which the Party has always vilified as corruption personified. APC as a party has always carried on with an air of puritanism. The party and its leaders have always given the impression that they don’t dip their hands into the public till. In other words, corruption is an anathema to the party. But in stark contradiction, the lifestyles of the party’s leaders do not give any credence to  this pretentious  Spartan disposition of the party.
In pursuance of its duty of keeping the ruling party on its toes, APC has always taken the PDP to the cleaners in the way it has been handling the affairs of the country. But the allegations that APC and some of its leading figures were  beneficiaries of the Father Christmas disposition of holy Mallam  Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has put a blight on the change campaign the opposition party launched as  its battle cry to wrestle power from the ruling party.
What is strange to many political watchers is that APC has not officially responded to the allegations of Metuh. This is unlike APC. Its spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has suddenly been silent. Yet this is a man who is always unsparing when attacking the ruling party or when responding to any issue.
A  newspaper (not THISDAY) which claimed to have spoken with Mohammed on the telephone reported that the APC chief did not seem to deny that its top members had ‘worked’ for the CBN. He said the issue was whether the said job was done or not.
“The question to ask is whether whoever got the job did it. If he did not, then the EFCC and the Police should go after such a person.”
On whether the party collected money from the suspended CBN governor to open offices, Mohammed said this was untrue.

•LASTMA officials and policemen during a clash

The Mobile Policemen attacked three LASTMA officials who were carrying out their legitimate duties on Ashabi Cole Street, off Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, at about 3:13 p.m., leaving one of the victims unconscious and rushed to a hospital.
Trouble started when the policemen guarding a bank located on Ashabi Cole Street, prevented the LASTMA officials from towing away the bank customer’s parked vehicle obstructing traffic.
According to an eye witness, who identified herself as Omolola Amusa, “trouble started after a minor argument over why they have to tow away the car that was causing obstruction on Ashabi Cole Street. The policemen said the owner was inside the bank and did not allow the vehicle to be removed. All of a sudden, one of the police officers gave a LASTMA official a head-butt and then used the butt of his gun to hit him on the head again. The LASTMA official collapsed and became unconscious.

“When the other LASTMA officials tried to rescue their colleague, it became a free for all and the policemen started shooting in the air to scare people around.”
Another witness who did not want his name mentioned said it was really unruly on the part of the two law enforcement agents to have engaged in a public show of same.
When P.M.NEWS asked the leader of the LASTMA team to explain what happpened and the fate of his injured colleague, he merely said the victim was receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital. He also refused to disclose the identity of the victim.
Efforts to speak to the police officers involved in the incident proved abortive as they ordered our reporter to leave the scene.

Mum dies after injecting Vaseline into her BOOBS in DIY breast enlargement procedure

"Obsessed with appearance": A friend said Sonia Perez Llanzon had previously suffered sunbathing burns

A mum has died in hospital in Argentina after injecting Vaseline into her breasts to make them bigger.
Amateur athlete Sonia Perez Llanzon, 39, suffered a fatal blood clot in her lung a month after being admitted to hospital with breathing problems following the dangerous procedure.
Police cadet son Kevin Berazategui, 20, wrote on his Facebook page: "I will love you for ever.
"The 20 years I spent by your side were beautiful."
Julio Pla, Head of Surgery at Lucio Molas Hospital in Santa Rosa, 350 miles south west of Buenos Aires, said: "The dead woman arrived at hospital with injuries to her breasts.
"She denied everything at first but then confessed she had injected Vaseline into them.
"I've never seen a case like this. The human body has antibodies to remove bacteria and viruses but it hasn't got any mechanisms against this type of product.
"Other people using vaseline like this are putting themselves in danger."
Local media reported Sonia, a respected runner and keen boxer, had suffered third degree burns last year while sunbathing.
An unnamed friend said: "She was obsessed with her appearance."
Doctors have warned in the past about increasing numbers of men injecting themselves with Vaseline, which contains petroleum, to increase the size of their penises.
Injuries consists of severe deformations caused by tissue damage and erectile dysfunction.
